Eucharist and Controversies

Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist remained, properly speaking, unquestioned down to the time of the heretic Berengarius of Tours (d. 1088), and so could claim even at that time the uninterrupted possession of ten centuries. In the course of this dogma’s history there arose in general two great Eucharistic controversies.

  1. Thank you Sharon, I had wondered where this understanding came from but Jesus shows clearly it’s error, He tells us we are to have Communion in remembrance of Him, when we remember someone they are not with us in body although yes in Spirit.

Jesus sent The Holy Spirit to teach us what He heard from The Father and to empower us so we could obey His guidlines, In Spirit Jesus and The Father are within us, although as Jesus tells us, He has gone to prepare a place for us and that He is with The Father and also that He will return and take us to be with Him, we know this will be in our Generation, as we are seeing the Birth pangs He told us about..

We remember that Jesus is the Head of the Body as we have Communion and as His Body we keep His Church pure, starting with ourselves by heart repentance and choosing to reject evil and seeking to do good by the empowering of The Holy Spirit.

We also remember that Jesus’ blood represents Love and renewal, in His Dying for us, we are are being made pure, when we are Born again the old has gone the new has come, we have God’s seed or Nature, we have put our flesh to death by The Spirit and are perfected in Love, we have the mind of Christ .

John3:1-11 (9) No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

John 8:34-36 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Romans 8 :12-15 Therefore, brothers/ sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. or if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Galatians 24 -26 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. if we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Romans 6: 22-23 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Daniel 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1John 5 18-20 We know that no one who is Born of God sins; but He who was Born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.

God tells us we are to be Righteous in our actions which shows we have Jesus’ Righteousness…

1John 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous.

1 Peter 2:24 Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed
