This Chapter gives the necessary background for the whole thesis. 1.0 deals with the issues inspiring our choice of the theme ‘Theology of Mission: An Old Testament Perspective’. It addresses the increasing need and the necessity of a biblical foundation for mission using the Old Testament as a lens.  In 2.0 we will briefly expound the general understanding of ‘the mission’ in relation to the Old Testament. In 3.0 we will focus on the first phase of mission in the Old Testament, that is, universality of salvation. We start from the myths of ‘The Origin’ up to Yahweh’s blessing of Abraham, analysing whether the blessing was meant only for the people of Israel or for all of humanity (universal mission of salvation).
